What Teesside is
Teesside spans the boroughs of Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, and Redcar and Cleveland, with a built-up area of 376,633 residents at the 2011 census, making it the eighteenth-largest urban area in the UK. It forms part of the wider Tees Valley, which also includes Darlington and Hartlepool. The Tees Transporter Bridge is its best-known landmark.
An industrial and port economy
Chemical sites operate at Wilton, Billingham and Seal Sands, producing petrochemicals, commodity chemicals, fertilisers and polymers. Teesport is a major port, and Teesworks on the former Redcar steelworks land is described as Europe’s largest brownfield site, within the Teesside Freeport, the largest in the UK. Industrial sites, redevelopment and construction projects need access control, perimeter patrols and out-of-hours cover.
