Planning an event so that security is part of the plan
The best event security conversations happen early. The venue, expected numbers, number of entrances, alcohol, timings and the profile of guests all affect how many officers you need and where they stand. Late changes are possible, but they are easier when security is already part of the plan.
Crowd safety is mainly about flow. Bottlenecks at entrances, unmarked exits and poorly sited bars are common causes of problems. Stewards positioned to keep people moving and informed prevent more trouble than officers waiting to intervene.
Where your event is licensed or needs coordination with the local authority or police, we work with you and your premises licence holder. Responsibility for licence conditions and risk assessments stays with the organiser, but we will provide the information and staffing you need.
How deployment works
Event brief
We gather the date, venue, expected numbers, timings, entrances and any specific concerns.
Staffing plan
We propose officer numbers, positions and roles, including door supervisors where licensing requires them.
Briefing and deployment
SIA-licensed, BS 7858 screened officers are briefed on the running order, exits and escalation contacts.
Post-event report
Incidents and observations are written up so you can improve the next event.
Every officer we deploy holds a valid SIA licence and is screened to BS 7858. You are welcome to check any licence on the SIA public register of licence holders.
Getting event security right from the start
Most event problems are traced to something that could have been seen in advance: a single entrance for a crowd that needed three, a queue that ran into the road, an unmarked fire exit, or a bar placed where people could not move past it. We encourage organisers to share the venue plan, run of show and expected numbers early, and to walk the entrances and exits with us before the event if that is possible.
Be clear about who is responsible for what. The organiser and premises licence holder remain responsible for licence conditions and risk assessments. Our job is to staff the plan, brief officers properly and tell you quickly if something is not working. Agreeing who makes the call on closing an entrance or stopping entry before the event avoids confusion at the moment it matters.
Questions to ask any event security provider
- Will you review our event plan and recommend officer numbers and positions?
- Are door supervisors and stewards clearly distinguished, and what does each do?
- How will officers be briefed on exits, assembly points and escalation contacts?
- What will you tell us after the event, and how soon?
Why MEHXIV
We operate 24/7 and can often support last-minute event requirements, for example when attendance exceeds forecast or a team member drops out. Female officers are available where you want a female presence for searches or guest welfare.
We operate around the clock, and we donate 5p from every £1 donated to children’s charities as part of how we do business. You can read more about our approach on the About MEHXIV page.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many security staff will my event need?
It depends on numbers, venue layout, entrances, alcohol and the type of guest. We ask about these and recommend a team, and your licence conditions or risk assessment may also set minimum levels. We will explain our reasoning.
Do you provide door supervisors and stewards?
Yes. We can supply SIA-licensed door supervisors where licensing requires them, and stewards for crowd flow and guest assistance. We will explain which roles your event needs when you request a quote.
Can you provide security for a small private party?
Yes. We cover small private functions as well as larger events. Tell us the venue, date and guest numbers and we will confirm availability and what staffing makes sense.
Can you help with last-minute event cover?
We run 24/7 operations and keep licensed officers available at short notice. Call us with the details and we will say honestly what we can staff.
Do you work with the venue and the organiser?
Yes. We coordinate with the venue team and organiser on entrances, exits, timings and emergency procedures, and brief officers accordingly before the event begins.
