What makes healthcare security different
Staff and patients are often under stress. Waiting areas, reception desks and out-of-hours entrances can be flashpoints, and the response needs to be calm and proportionate, not heavy-handed. The aim is to support staff while keeping the environment welcoming.
Access control is a constant. Visitors, patients, contractors and deliveries all come and go, and some areas, such as medicine stores and records, need restricted access. Clear procedures and trained officers help balance openness with control.
Out-of-hours cover is a safety issue for staff working late or alone, particularly in car parks and at entrances, as well as a security one.
Many healthcare premises also have to protect patient privacy, so officers need to understand confidentiality and follow site policies carefully.
How we approach healthcare security
We discuss your premises, the areas of greatest concern and the type of presence you want. Officers are briefed on your site policies and confidentiality expectations, and are selected for their communication skills.
MEHXIV officers are SIA-licensed and receive the same BS 7858 screening as all MEHXIV personnel. Clients can request female officers where that is appropriate for the setting. Cover can be arranged for fixed hours, out-of-hours or at short notice, subject to availability.
Healthcare in our area
The region’s large hospitals, including James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, University Hospital of North Tees, Darlington Memorial Hospital and Redcar Primary Care Hospital, are run by NHS organisations that have their own security arrangements. Our work in healthcare is more likely to be for private clinics, care settings, contractors working on healthcare premises, and healthcare construction projects.
We would rather say that plainly than overstate it. If you run a smaller healthcare setting and want a calm, SIA-licensed presence, with a female officer if that suits your service, tell us about the premises and we will recommend what fits.
Before you arrange healthcare security
- Define the presence you want: reassuring and visible, or focused on access control.
- Identify areas that need restricted access, such as medicine stores and records.
- Agree confidentiality expectations and how officers should handle patient information.
- Plan for out-of-hours entrances, car parks and lone-working staff.
- Decide who officers should report to and how incidents are escalated.
Healthcare premises vary widely. Describe yours and the concerns your staff have, and we will tell you plainly what we can provide and what we would recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you provide a discreet, non-uniformed presence?
Our officers can be deployed in uniform for visible reassurance. If you want a different approach, discuss it with us and we will confirm what is possible within SIA licensing rules.
Do your officers understand confidentiality in healthcare settings?
Officers are briefed on your site policies, including confidentiality expectations, before they start. If you have specific requirements, tell us when you request a quote.
Can you provide out-of-hours cover for staff safety?
Yes. We operate around the clock and can cover evenings, nights and weekends, including lone-worker reassurance at entrances and car parks, subject to availability.
