What’s included
24-hour static guarding
An officer on site overnight and at weekends, when sites are quiet and theft and trespass are most likely.
Access control and visitor management
Gate checks, sign-in logs and checks on deliveries so you know who is on site and when.
Plant and equipment protection
Attention to excavators, tools, fuel, cabling and stored materials, which are common theft targets.
Perimeter and fence-line patrols
Regular walks of hoarding and fencing to spot breaches, damage or signs of attempted entry early.
Lone worker checks
Welfare checks for people working outside normal hours, with a point of contact if something goes wrong.
Mobile patrols between visits
Where full-time cover is not justified, scheduled or random patrol visits can provide a lower-cost deterrent.
Who we protect
- Housebuilders and residential developments
- Commercial and industrial build projects
- Civil engineering and infrastructure works
- Refurbishment and fit-out sites
- Plant hire yards and temporary compounds
What goes wrong on unprotected sites
Theft of plant, copper and materials is the headline risk, but trespass matters too. An unauthorised visitor on a site with open excavations or unfinished scaffolding is a safety incident waiting to happen, for them and for you.
Risk also changes with the build. Early groundworks, a weathertight shell and a fit-out each present different weak points and different valuable items. We expect to adjust patrol routes and hours as the programme moves on, rather than leave an arrangement unchanged for months.
Where cover is needed straight away, for example after a break-in or a missed delivery of fencing, we can deploy at short notice while you sort the longer-term arrangement.
How deployment works
Site brief
We talk through the programme, site layout, access points, valuable items and any existing CCTV or alarms.
Plan
We recommend static guarding, patrols or a mix, and agree hours, gate procedures and who we report to.
Deployment
SIA-licensed, BS 7858 screened officers are briefed on your site rules and start on the agreed date.
Reporting
Logs and incident reports are shared with your site team, and cover is adjusted as the project phases change.
Every officer we deploy holds a valid SIA licence and is screened to BS 7858. You are welcome to check any licence on the SIA public register of licence holders.
Matching cover to the stage of the build
Security needs on a construction site shift as the project moves on. During groundworks the main risks are plant, fuel and open excavations. Once a building is weathertight, tools, fixtures and fittings move in and the risk shifts to the building itself. Late in the programme, finished kitchens, boilers and appliances are attractive and easy to remove. Static cover, patrols and access control can each play a part, and the mix should be reviewed at each phase rather than fixed for the whole project.
Ask your principal contractor or insurer whether the site policy specifies minimum security measures. If it does, we can plan around those requirements. If it does not, a short conversation about what is on site, who has access and when it is empty will usually point to the right level of cover.
Questions to ask any site security provider
- Will officers follow our site induction and report to our nominated contact?
- How will visitors, contractors and deliveries be checked and logged?
- What happens if an officer on a night shift cannot attend, and who will cover?
- How are lone worker and out-of-hours welfare checks handled?
Why MEHXIV
We run 24/7 operations and keep licensed officers available for short-notice cover, which is useful when a break-in or a change of programme leaves a site exposed.
We operate around the clock, and we donate 5p from every £1 donated to children’s charities as part of how we do business. You can read more about our approach on the About MEHXIV page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide 24-hour security for building sites?
Yes. We provide static guarding around the clock, overnight cover only, or scheduled mobile patrols, depending on the risk and your budget. We will talk through the options when you request a quote.
Can you cover a site at short notice after a break-in?
We keep licensed officers available for short-notice deployment and run 24/7 operations. Call us with the site details and we will tell you honestly what we can staff and when.
Do your officers control access for contractors and deliveries?
Yes. Officers can check and log people and vehicles in and out in line with your site rules, which helps with both security and health and safety.
Will your officers work with our site manager?
Yes. Officers follow your site induction and rules and report to your nominated contact, so security supports the site team rather than working separately.
Is a patrol cheaper than a static guard?
Patrols usually cost less than a full-time officer but offer less continuous presence. Whether patrols are enough depends on what is on site and how exposed it is. We will recommend what fits the risk.
