Security for Critical Infrastructure Sites

Utilities, energy, transport and similar sites carry consequences that go well beyond the cost of lost equipment. MEHXIV provides SIA-licensed officers for infrastructure assets that need strict access control, careful record-keeping and a vigilant, compliant presence.

What makes infrastructure different

Access control is stricter, and mistakes are costlier. Sites often have defined procedures for who may enter, what must be logged, and who to call in an emergency. Officers need to follow these precisely and keep accurate records.

Vigilance over long shifts is a real challenge. Many infrastructure sites are quiet most of the time, and the risk is complacency. Briefings, clear post orders, regular checks and good supervision help keep standards up.

Remote and unmanned locations add further difficulty. Patrol patterns need to be thought through, and lone-worker welfare and communication are part of the plan, not an afterthought.

Many operators have formal supplier requirements and audit expectations. We will tell you honestly what we can demonstrate and provide, and you should check any accreditations or standards you require before contracting.

How we approach infrastructure security

We begin with your site rules, access procedures and reporting requirements, and agree post orders in writing. Officers are SIA-licensed and BS 7858 screened, and they are briefed on your emergency procedures before their first shift.

Gatehouse operations, vehicle and visitor access control and log management are core to the work, and we can add patrols or key holding where agreed. We operate 24/7 and can discuss short-notice cover for gaps in rota, subject to availability.

Infrastructure and heavy industry in our region

Teesside is a heavy-industry region. Chemical sites operate at Wilton, Billingham and Seal Sands, Teesport is a major port, and projects at Teesworks include the Net Zero Teesside Power scheme, a gas-fired power station with carbon capture. Hartlepool has a nuclear power station, which is the town’s largest single employer.

Some of these sites, particularly nuclear, run specialist regulated security that is outside our scope, and we say so plainly. Our work is more likely to be at sites that need gatehouse, access control and patrols but are not subject to such regimes, at contractors and suppliers working near them, and at construction projects on the sites. If you have formal requirements, tell us at the outset and we will say what we can and cannot provide.

Before you appoint security for an infrastructure site

  • Document your access control, logging and escalation procedures in full.
  • Check any supplier requirements and standards you need a provider to meet, and ask for evidence.
  • Plan for long shifts with briefings, supervision and regular checks.
  • Decide how remote or unmanned areas will be patrolled and how lone workers will be supported.
  • Agree reporting formats and audit expectations before cover starts.

If you have formal requirements for accreditations or audits, tell us at the start. We will say plainly what we can and cannot provide so you can decide whether we are the right fit.
