When patrols are enough, and when they are not
Patrols are a good fit where the main risk is out-of-hours theft or damage, and a regular visible check is enough to deter and detect. They usually cost less than a full-time guard, but they provide presence at intervals, not continuously. For high-value or high-risk sites, a static officer may be the better choice, and we will say so.
Emergency cover is a different need. When a break-in leaves a premises open, a contract guard fails to turn up, or an event outgrows its plan, the priority is speed and a competent, licensed officer. We keep a pool of licensed officers available for short-notice deployment and operate around the clock.
Short-notice cover works best when you give us as much information as you can: location, access arrangements, what has happened and how long you need cover. We will tell you straight away what we can staff and when.
How deployment works
Call or request
For emergencies, phone us. For regular patrols, send a quote request with the site details and the pattern you want.
Confirm cover
We agree what we can provide, timings and access arrangements, and who to report to.
Deployment
SIA-licensed, BS 7858 screened officers attend, with a briefing on site rules and emergency contacts.
Reporting
You receive patrol or incident reports, and we review whether to continue, extend or move to static cover.
Every officer we deploy holds a valid SIA licence and is screened to BS 7858. You are welcome to check any licence on the SIA public register of licence holders.
Making the most of patrols and emergency cover
Patrols work best when they are predictable for you and unpredictable for everyone else. Agree the number of visits and the checks to be made, but let officers vary the timing within a window so that nobody watching the site can set a clock by them. Ask for a short report after every visit, because a patrol you cannot evidence is a patrol you cannot rely on.
For emergency cover, preparation helps more than speed alone. If you give us access instructions, alarm codes under a secure arrangement, site contacts and emergency numbers in advance, an officer can attend with far less delay when something goes wrong. We are happy to set up that information for you before you ever need to call.
Questions to ask any patrol or emergency cover provider
- How do you evidence that each patrol visit took place?
- What will an officer do if they find a break-in in progress?
- Can you cover at short notice, and what information do you need from me?
- When should I move from patrols to a static guard?
Why MEHXIV
Short-notice cover is a core part of how we operate. Our licensed officers handle emergency and patrol work, and female officers are available where one is needed at short notice.
We operate around the clock, and we donate 5p from every £1 donated to children’s charities as part of how we do business. You can read more about our approach on the About MEHXIV page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a mobile patrol and a static guard?
A static guard stays on site and provides continuous presence. A mobile patrol visits one or more sites at intervals. Patrols generally cost less but cover less time. We will recommend which fits your risk.
Can you provide emergency security cover tonight?
We operate 24/7 and keep licensed officers available at short notice, so call us with the site details. We will tell you straight away whether we can cover it and when an officer can attend.
Do you provide random patrols?
Yes. Random timings are available as well as fixed schedules, which makes it harder for anyone to plan around the visit. We can mix both depending on the site.
Can you replace a guard who has called in sick at another company?
Yes, we provide last-minute cover for sites left short. Give us the location, shift hours and site rules and we will confirm what we can staff.
Will I get a report after each patrol?
Yes. We record each visit and any findings so you can see what was checked and when. We will agree the reporting format and who receives it when setting up your cover.
